Søren Brier is professor in the Semiotics of
Information, Cognitive and Communication Science at Copenhagen
Business School's new department of International Culture and
Communication Studies attached to the Centre for Language, Cognition,
and Mentality. Cand. Scient. Søren Brier, Ph.D., Dr.Phil., holds a
Master in Biology from the University of Copenhagen from 1979, and a

Søren Brier is the founder and editor in chief of
the interdisciplinary quarterly journal Cybernetics & Human Knowing,
1992-, co-founder of The International Association for Biosemiotic
Studies in 2005, a trustee for the American Society for Cybernetics,
member of the board for the Sociocybernetics Group (ISA) and
Foundation of Information Science (FIS)group. He is on the editorial
board of Systems Research and Behavioral Science, Journal of

“Cybersemiotics; Why Information is Not Enough” Søren Brier forsvarede sin doktordisputats i marts 2006, og værket er nu tilgængeligt for et større publikum i en redigeret version hos Toronto University Press. Bogen analyserer de dybe problemer i udvikling af vidensmanagement-systemer, kunstig intelligens, dokumentformidlende systemer, human computer interaction (HCH), og automatisk sprogbehandling. Det sker bl.a. ud fra en diskussion af de videnskabsteoretiske problemer omkring håndteringen af menings- og betydningsdannelse i etablering af en transfaglig informations-, kognitions- og kommunikationsvidenskab med computeren som forbillede. Søren Brier har søgt at løse disse problemer gennem at etablere en teoriramme, indenfor hvilken en forklaring på forskellene på maskiner, dyrs og menneskers kommunikation kan etableres på tværs af C.P. Snow's to kulturer i videnskaberne. Dette foregår ved at kombinere kybernetik og semiotik i et ikke-mekanistisk udviklingsteoretisk perspektiv, som han kalder Cybersemiotics.
